AMARANTH -EVERLASTING PLANT

Poetical language - Happy vitality 

The name of Amaranth is from Greek word signifying unfading .Few flowers have such a wealth of sentiment about them.

Amaranth is Sweden's National Flower. Queen Christiana, who abdicated the Swedish throne in 1654 have more time to give to study, founded the much esteemed Scandinavian order of of the Knights of Amaranth. On their golden badge enameled Amaranths and the motto: 

Dolce nella memoria - "the flower of love and friendship."

 With many of the ancients, the Amaranth was sacred to the gods, Some think the Amaranth to have been A. melancholicus that it was A. caudatus-the Love lies  bleeding of old old gardens. 

The Globe Amaranth is the most unchanging of this great family. It and Celosia are now never called Amaranth, Amaranthus is reserved for a class that have spiked or weeping chains of inflorescence, such as A. Gibbosus, A. caudatus etc.,  all of which are imperfect. Everlastings bright in the beginning, but becoming dull and faded in time.
