Button Snake root, Blazing Star, Vanilla Plant, Kansas Gay Feather
This is a native of the prairies of the entire Mississippi Valley. The various species are from 2 to 6 feet high, with wand like stems wreathed with closely set rosy purple blossoms. Often in Western hay cured as it is in the blazing sun stalks of dry flowers, will yet show a purple hue. These are Liatris. If cut early and dried carefully, they do quite well for vases, if combined with feathered vailing grasses.
