GYNERIUM - PAMPAS GRASS
This is a noble ornament to the lawn growing 12 feet high. Not hardy, except in favored localities. The well known Pampas plumes are much used. Cut them when the tip of the plumage is a few inches out of the sheath. When cut young and dried in the sunshine. they become fluffy and of silvery whiteness. Erianthus Ravennæ so much grown in the North as a substitute for Pampas Grass, does not furnish good plumes. Their color is a dirty white not at all pleasing.
