 FRUITED CREME DE MENTHE SALAD 

Place two small lettuce leaves on a suitable dish.
 Put a No 20 mound of vanilla ice cream on each.
 Cover one with fruit salad. 
Cover the other with mixed nuts. 
Dress both with whipped cream and top with a cherry.
Serve a small pitcher of creme de menthe syrup on the side. 

There is in thee a chill taste of the tomb, 

A strange and perfumed warning of decay, 

Thou warmest not and yet thou canst allay, 

For a brief span all fantasies of gloom.

Then does the fancy sadder garb assume, 

One wearies of the freshness of the May, 

The dead seem nearer and poison the fair day, 

On light and feathery clouds there hangs a doom.

I see when thou art near the fresh-dug graves 

Of wan consumptives by the North fog spread, 

Beside some mournful beach where dull waves curl; 

Or sadder still, when hope no longer saves, 

I see some self-slain bankrupt, lying dead 

Within the boudoir of a Cora Pearl!

This plant possesses a pungent, aromatic, and agreeable flavor, due to a volatile oil, which is officinal. It is used to relieve nausea, flatulence, and slight abdominal pains. Its cooling and moistening effect in the mouth is often of service when it is not desirable to give much water to drink. An infusion may be used, but preparations of the oil are usually. as a matter of convenience preferred.
